Yaylay teams consist of two traders, one avian, one hominid. The hominid team member is born mute but is able to reason shrewdly, manipulate trade goods with its hands and walk the halls of Tradepoint. The avian member of the team is highly adept at speaking and reasoning. Both team members are sentient, and communicate telepathically with one another. Yaylay teams share a strong emotional bond and live together as an interdependent unit, even when they are not on Tradepoint. It is a partnership that lasts for the lifespan of the avian member. When that avian member dies, the hominid member observes a period of deep mourning and then seeks a fledgling with whom it can form a new telepathic bond.
