The Chiba are a tall and imposing race, highly intelligent, belligerent in nature, and insectoid in form. Because the physical structure of their vocal cords makes it impossible for them to articulate the sounds of Tradetalk, they wear translation necklaces that render their native speech comprehensible to the other races on Tradepoint. These necklaces are an operational necessity but they are also a visible indication of status, with translation necklaces ranging from utilitarian in appearance to highly ornamented.
